How it all began...this watercolor painting adventure into healing the soul.

So here is where it all started...I needed a way to focus on something other than the stresses of troubles in life and work. Watercolor painting is where I found my peace and creativity. It is very meditative for me and allows me time with the Creator. Literally, I feel I spend time with God when I paint. I sit and listen as well as communicate. I feel the presence of something greater than me is sitting with me when I am still and painting. The world needs more quiet and calm.

I did not intend to have a store or sell my art. It just happened when someone said you should make your watercolor painting into a pillow. I thought to myself, really?
I think of painting as my therapy. This world has become upside down and inside out. It is almost opposite of what I recall growing up. So, I choose to focus my attention on something natural and paint birds, wildlife, and scenery.
Painting is something I did with my Gramma Baker. She was always crafting and painting birds and scenery from where we lived in upstate New York.

She was the town historian and created her own writings and publications.

I think she would have liked the artist I have become.

Each time I sit to paint I recall spending hours on end making something with her. From doll clothes to doll houses. She always had something in the works.

In Memory of My Gram

My Gram was a woman of many gifts - a minister, an artist, a doll collector, and the Town Historian for Saranac Hollow, the small town I grew up in.

She was creative, loving, and full of life. She saw beauty in everything and taught me to do the same.

When she called me "Susie Q," it was always with a twinkle in her eye and encouragement to create.

Her legacy lives on through every brushstroke I make, every student I teach, and every piece of coastal art I create. This business, this journey, this life in nature - it all started with her inspiration.
Thank you, Gram, for showing me that art is love made visible. 💚

I have great loving and fond memories of growing up here in Saranac, NY. I am glad I took up watercolor painting. I am not saying I am great at it, but it seems to be improving a bit.
I hope you enjoy my art.

Dr Q, what wonderful and loving words. Your Gram would be proud! Thanks for being there for me.🌺🌴🦩
Diane, I just updated this post to include photos of our beloved Gram and more about her incredible life. I’d love to hear your memories of her too! 💚
Diane! Oh my goodness, what a beautiful surprise to hear from you! Your aunt – my beloved Gram – was such an inspiration to me. She’s the reason I paint, the reason I see beauty in nature, and the reason I’m sharing this gift with others. She called me Susie Q, and that nickname lives on as Dr. Q today.
I would love to connect with you and share stories about Gram. She meant the world to me, and knowing that her legacy continues through my art and teaching would have made her so proud.
I’m adding some of her artwork and photos to honor her memory. Thank you for reaching out – this connection means more than you know. 💚
With love, Susan (Dr. Q) aka Susie Q
Your Grandma Baker was an amazinf lady as well as my aunt!
